I have played squash at this sports facility for 5 years and found that the staff and the squash courts are the best in the local area. It's a shame if the courts are closed but I feel that the parent governors haven't considered the service the centre provides to the local community and that the contrived manner that this proposal was applied is nothing short of disgraceful and totally unprofessional.
This centre is for the community and through council tax also funded by the community but it seems that the parent governors don't think that the local people should be addressed . To issue the planned proposal at very short notice ( and offer an INCENTIVE !!!) is very dubious or just unprofessional. I cannot believe that the urgent rush to pass this proposal as I believe that schools have to put forward their intentions before the parent governors at the beginning of term ( or even the term before ) and as Mr Peckham stated " he has fought hard and long to get the funding raised ". Surely the local community / council members and the council planning should have been involved at this early stage. I would like to know how Stockport Sports Trust can be so lapse and pathetic to allow well used squash courts to close. If their management believe that the other 2 squash sites can accommodate peak time bookings from Bramhall then I'd be quite happy to employ their service's as a booking agent -- have they looked into the statistics and pattern booking by squash players - I think not . Do the Sports trust also think about the local children who wish to play squash or even racket ball on these courts or do they expect the parents to act as taxi drivers .
The closure of the Bramhall squash courts has larger ramifications to the local community and I believe that the parent governors and Stockport Sports Trust haven't taken this into consideration .
