What is the proposal?

The proposal is imaginative solution that meets the requirements of the community of players and the Stockport Sports Trust and the School.

Bramhall High School propose to remove the back walls, plus the wall that divides the two courts, remake the roof, refloor, resurface the walls, put in new lighting, curtains, mirrors, etc for dance and drama.

Build two glass back walls and a movable dividing wall which would enable the school to use the space for their purposes and the public to use the space for singles or doubles squash.

They have also proposed to open up the stair and balcony space by making an arch so that the new two glass back courts would be seen by all who pass by as they enter and leave.

The additional funding for this is in the order of £35,000

This proposal has received enthusiastic feedback from squash players and other Leisure Centre users alike, and is widely regarded as an excellent and imaginative solution to a difficult problem. We immediately established a Squash Development Group amongst the players to consider how to push forward this proposal constructively.

The members of BHSSC are committed to make this fantastic proposal a success for all concerned, and to forge ongoing channels of cooperation between all parties. In particular, we would like to ensure that the aspirations of the school can also be addressed. Consequently, we hope the school will nominate its own student and adult representatives to join the BHSSC Committee.
